Careers Resource Centre

At the Careers Resource Centre (CRC) we offer careers advice and guidance to Years 7 to 13. We have a well-stocked careers' library in addition to various online resources and software that we use with students. We have a wide variety of literature on apprenticeships, opportunities post Year 11, 12 and 13, volunteering and local training providers. Students can access careers interviews with our Careers Lead and, in addition, they can also request a careers interview with an external independent careers adviser which is supplied to us through Adviza.

Throughout the school year we organise a variety of careers related activities that usually include;

  • Careers Fair
  • Industry Talks
  • Mock Interviews
  • University Visits
  • Employer Visits
  • Apprenticeship talks
  • College Talks
  • Armed forces Activity days

We offer a drop in service for students during break time, lunchtime and after school, where students can call in for an informal discussion.

Year 8 students are encouraged to get involved with Work with your Parents Day whilst at Larkmead.  We then run a work experience programme for all of our Year 10 students, which runs for a week during Term 5.  This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain an insight into the world of work.  Similarly, our Year 12 students are involved in MAD (Make A Difference Week).  Support is on hand from the CRC to help students secure placements.  We also support many Year 12 and 13 students who wish to secure independent work experience.

The CRC organises many Enterprise Activities in the school, across all the different year groups.  These include the tenner challenge for KS3 and an Enterprise Challenge for KS5, where students are challenged to invest and raise money for charities of their choice.

CAREERS EDUCATION

When planning the programme of careers education across all year groups we are mindful of the importance of providing good quality, impartial information, advice and guidance. The resources we use are up-to-date and carefully selected to respond to the rapidly changing world around us. We recognise the importance of equality of opportunity and encourage you to challenge stereotypes regarding jobs and roles.

Larkmead recognises the importance of offering you independent, impartial careers advice and guidance. Adviza provides Larkmead with qualified careers advisers on set days during the school year. If you are in years 8-13 you are entitled to request a careers interview, as a follow-up from the careers interview you will be provided with a careers action plan which gives you an overview of the discussion and additional resources to use.

The activities below represent a typical offer in each year group.  The impact of the events requiring it is measured afterwards through an impact report to ensure their continued effectiveness for future year groups.
