A Level Examination results

There were delighted scenes at Larkmead School Abingdon as students celebrated impressive achievements across their A Level subjects.

Students are moving on to Oxbridge, Russell Group and other universities, prestigious drama schools, further study (Art Foundation courses), Advanced Apprenticeship (including Balfour Beatty and Abbott Laboratories), the RAF, employment or a gap year, with fantastic individual success stories across the school. Almost all students secured a place at their first-choice university.

Larkmead is proud to be a truly comprehensive Sixth Form with success and opportunity for all. Our entry criteria of 5 or more GCSEs at grade 9-4 means our courses are accessible to a wider range of students than many Sixth Forms. We are joined each year by students from across Abingdon and beyond, part of an exciting Sixth Form where fantastic pastoral care, ambition and support adds value to students’ progress, helping them secure University destinations that may not otherwise have been open to them.

Alongside success across the full range of subjects, 80% of students taking the Extended Project Qualification achieved grade A*/A.

We are really proud of all of our students, and it has been wonderful to celebrate these results with students, families and staff in school. We wish them all the very best for the next steps in their future.

Progress

Progress at A Level is measured in relation to each student’s average points score at GCSE, and compared to students nationally with similar KS4 attainment.  This analysis is referred to as “Level 3 Value Added” and a value of +0.5 would represent students doing, on average, half a grade better in each of their subjects than students nationally.

Level 3 Value Added Scores are released in October by the Department for Education, after analysis of the National data set.  It can be approximated, using the National data from last year (2024).  Using this approximation, the examination results obtained by Larkmead School sixth form students is +0.11.
