Primary Transition

Joining Larkmead from Primary School

We understand that moving from primary to secondary school can be a daunting prospect and our aim is to make this transition as easy and stress-free as possible both for parents and students. To help us to do this we have developed a Transition Journey which gives you plenty of time to get used to us and allows us to answer all your questions, as well as put to rest any nagging doubts you might have. Unfortunately due to the current situation the government has announced that new Y7s are not to visit their secondary schools until the next academic year begins, however we would like to reassure you that we will still do everything possible to ensure that you feel confident and happy about joining our community in September.

Ordinarily during the course of this term, we would host a Meet the Tutor Evening and two full days of Induction, but we have now had to cancel all of these events.  However, not all is lost, and we are trying to find inventive ways to welcome you to Larkmead. Below you will find links to a number of videos and online tools we have put together to help give you a sense of what it will feel like to be in a secondary setting, and we will be adding to this bank of resources over the next few months. While nothing will quite replace having you here in person, our hope is that these resources will make you feel excited and more confident about joining us in September.

When the new academic year starts we plan to do a very comprehensive two day induction programme, and as the majority of students will not return till the Monday 7th of September we will have the school virtually to ourselves. We will use this time to help you find your feet and build up your confidence before the older children arrive back. The dates of these are below:

  • Wednesday 2nd of September 2020: afternoon transition event for vulnerable pupils in the LRC
  • Thursday 3rd of September 2020: first day of transition for all Year 7
  • Friday 4th of September 2020: second day of transition for all Y7

Obviously, if the guidance from the government changes then we may have to adapt these plans further, but we hope that the situation will continue to improve and we will be able to return to school as normal in September. Remember that if you have any questions or want to let us know any information that will help you to settle at Larkmead, please email us at newparents2020@larkmead.oxon.sch.uk

SEN Admissions

SEN Admissions

Larkmead is an inclusive school which attracts students with a range of special needs. To address the demands made on SEND provision at Larkmead we use Provision Mapping. This allows for a range of group and individual interventions to be put in place which to appropriately and effectively meet student needs.

Support for students with Education and Health Care Plans (EHCP) will be prioritised through the provision mapping system. Group interventions are targeted towards those with similar needs whilst recognising that some students will need more support than others.
