Key Stage 4 – Film Studies

Key Stage 4 consists of students in Years 9 to 11.  We aim to provide a core understanding and skills course in year 9 that underpins the GCSE analysis and coursework starting in year 10.  In year 9 students will explore film history, key concepts and terms, and practice using software and shooting short filmed responses.

In Year 10 and 11 we analyse the set texts in detail, including exploration of specialist writing,  and produce independent coursework as either a written screenplay or filmed extract accompanied by an evaluation.

Key Stage 5 – Media Studies

What will my child learn in A-Level Media Studies

The media touches every aspect of our modern lives, from the films we watch to the magazines we read. If you want to gain an inside knowledge of how and why the media manipulates information, this is the subject for you. Students will have the opportunity to learn:

How film, TV and magazines convey messages, both hidden and open
How audiences use the media, and how they can be affected by what they watch or read
How large media industries work with smaller ones to make a lot of money
How to make media products of your own in print, TV or film formats.

The course is assessed through a combination of coursework and written examination. The skills you learn here will change the way you look at media products forever, opening up a rich choice of both media and non-media related careers.
