Visual & Performing Arts
The Visual and Performing Arts faculty offers Art & Design, Dance, Drama, Music & Photography. We are passionate about ‘Arts for All’, our aim is to engage, inspire and empower our students, encouraging all to develop their creativity and foster an appreciation of the Arts and the world around them.
The Arts at Larkmead express the values of our community; engaging teaching provides challenging opportunities, developing independent learners; motivating and inspiring our students to realise their potential and develop as well rounded individuals, who can go on to become well respected members of the community, economically productive and lifelong learners.
The Arts form part of the key stage 3 curriculum and students can opt to do one or more of these subjects at GCSE and ‘A’ level.
We offer a wide range of educational arts experiences to all our students including cultural arts days, where students explore different cultures such as India and Africa.
We also offer a diverse program of extracurricular activities and numerous opportunities to perform throughout the year both in school and at the local theatre. Music concerts, Dance festivals and the School production are just a small part of students’ annual performance opportunities.
From Year 9 all students can gain Bronze Arts Award, an additional qualification. As part of this experience, students have the opportunity to develop their skills independently, work with visiting Artists and go to London to the Tate and attend a West End show.
We are currently furthering our links with different cultural groups and artists; creating collaborative projects across the curriculum and with visiting practitioners, provide opportunities for all our students, tapping into their hidden talents, raising aspirations and extending lifelong learning, whilst building on cultural diversity within our community.
Arts for All Partnership Primary Project
With funding from Artswork, Larkmead has been running workshops in Arts, Dance, Drama, Music and Storytelling with our Year 7 students and our partner Primary’s Caldecott, Carswell, Marcham and Thameside. This culminated in an Arts Festival day which was a huge success celebrating the creativity and hard work of students and staff with performances and exhibitions for parents and each other. Please click on the button below to watch the slide show of the project and the Festival. Enjoy – they have done some amazing work!
