Reading throughout the summer is essential for our students to at least maintain, if not grow, their reading habits and ability. This can be paperbacks/hardbacks, e.books, magazines – whichever is their preference. Please promote ‘SUMMER READING’ to your child/children.
Perhaps challenge your child to read at least 2 (if not 3 or 4?) books over the summer? Discuss the books with them… or better still encourage them to post a review of books they’ve read to me here in the LRC @ l.stone@Larkmead.oxon.sch.uk Prizes will be awarded in September for the best reviews received!
A Summer Reading initiative to also consider is:
- The UK’s Young Adult Literature Convention (YALC) on 28th – 30th July @ Olympia London – Three packed days of talks, workshops and activities. YALC is a celebration of the very best books for young people – and fans of YA (young adult) fiction will once again have chance to meet favourite authors, discover new books, listen to inspiring talks, take part in hands-on creative workshops, meet agents and publishers – and much more! londonfilmandcomiccon.com
- The Reading Agency in conjunction with local libraries are also seeking 13 – 24 year old volunteers, during the Summer Holidays, in support of their Summer Reading Challenge for younger people. Volunteering is a fun way to help others learn new skills and will be great for your CV, references, UCAS and the D of E Award. Find out more at oxfordshire.gov.uk/libraries or ask at your local library.
Have a great summer relaxing and reading!
