Larkmead School – Careers News

Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards 2017
We are excited to share that Larkmead School was a finalist in the schools award category at in inaugural Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards 2017 that took place this week. Larkmead School was shortlisted from a long list. We just missed out on the main award, but we did receive an award for ‘highly commended’. The award recognised the pivotal part that Larkmead School plays in supporting & signposting the students towards local apprenticeship opportunities.

National Apprenticeship Week 2017
This week we have been promoting apprenticeship opportunities with students in years 10-13 to tie in with National Apprenticeship Week. Students have been shown video links on how to find apprenticeships / the benefits of apprenticeships & technology related apprenticeships for the digital generation. In addition each week lists of local apprenticeship vacancies are sent out to students, and on a monthly basis Aoife from Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Team runs a drop in session in the Careers Office where students can call in to speak to her.

Women in STEM Event
We recently ran a women in STEM event, through our links with BITC & Ricardo we developed the event to encourage more female students to consider careers in STEM industries. 6 Representatives from Ricardo spoken to 30 year 10 girls on their careers, explaining what they do and the path they took to get there. The feedback from the session was really positive with the students finding the information that was shared with them useful and positive, with many of them saying they would now consider a career in STEM. Thank you to Ricardo for supporting us with this exciting event.
