Bad Weather Update – Tuesday 12th December 2017
Dear parents, carers and guardians
Thank you for your patience today. I can confirm that year 11 mock exams went ahead and as did many sixth form lessons.
We have looked carefully at the weather forecast and our decision for tomorrow (Tuesday 12th) is that we will close completely to students and staff.
We have taken this decision for the following reasons:
- The temperature is set to drop to significantly below freezing tonight and for most of the school hours tomorrow. The site has clear pathways prepared by our site team but it is very wet and there is a good deal of melting snow on site. This will freeze hard despite the copious amounts of salt that we have spread.
- The icy roads will present a hazard, greater in fact than today, to students and staff trying to make their way to school.
It is therefore our firm belief that the school will be open as normal on Wednesday for all students and staff. I would not intend to send a further communication to confirm this so, please assume that the school will be completely open to all staff and students on Wednesday 13th December.
Year 11 Mock Exams
About a third of the year sat exams today but with the above closure tomorrow we need to make arrangements for Year 11 mocks and these are as follows:
If you were unable to sit your mock exam on Monday 11th December Mrs Screen and Mrs Dennett (Exams Manager) will tell you, via school email and tutors, when you will sit this exam.
English Language Mock
This will now be scheduled for Wednesday 13th December at 2pm. You must arrive to register in the hall by 1.30pm. Your seat number and room will be the same as what is listed on your timetable for Tuesday 12th December 9am exam. A new exam timetable will not be re-issued. The exam is likely to finish between 4 and 4.30pm. The late bus which leaves school at 4.50pm, will be available for those students who currently travel to school by bus.
Students who do not come to school by bus will travel home as usual, once the exam has finished.
This is now scheduled for Thursday 14th December at 2pm. You must arrive to register in the hall by 1.30pm. Your seat number and room will be the same as what is listed on your timetable for Tuesday 12th December 9am exam. A new exam timetable will not be re-issued.
Christmas Jumper Day
On a much brighter note, the sixth form are running a Christmas Jumper day on Friday 15th in support of Save the Children. This is for students and staff.
Please note that students in Years 7-11 may wear a Christmas Jumper over their school uniform if they pay a pound to their tutor.
Year 11 students who are sitting exams may join in but will not be able to wear their Christmas Jumper in the examination hall.
Clearly this is a demanding time for the school and its students, parents, carers and guardians. We are dealing with the repercussions of the electrical strike and the Sports Hall fire but all is going well, our students and staff are in good spirits and I wish you, once again, a very happy and relaxing Christmas.
