Author Katherine Rundell Visits

Katherine Rundell Talks

Katherine Rundell, author of ‘The Explorer’ and ‘Roof Toppers’, was here and gave engaging, spellbinding talks to our Year 8s, Y7 Book Club Members and KS2 guests from 5 local primary schools (as part of the Launch of this year’s KS2 Page Turners Book Club).

Katherine shared her research experiences that form the basis of her books; there was mention of swimming with pink dolphins, eating piranhas and tarantulas, walking on roof tops and tightrope walking. All in all writing books is an exciting and risky business!

Katherine spoke of her new novel ‘The Good Thieves’ a story about fighting for what’s right, stealing back what belongs to you! A must read.

Katherine is now a full-time writer and a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, where she studies Renaissance literature and climbs old buildings at night. Katherine has won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and the Blue Peter Book Award and has been shortlisted for many others. In 2017 she was selected as one of Hay Festival’s Hay30 influential young thinkers to watch.

KS2 Page Turners Book Club

We welcomed Caldecott School, Dunmore School, St Nicolas School, St Helen & St Katharine’s School and Thameside School to this year’s KS2 Page Turners Book Club launched with a talk from Katherine Rundell.

We look forward to reading with each primary school, along with St Helen & St Katharine school, with the aim of reading between 2 – 4 books by September; when we all come back together to discuss and review the books read.

Happy reading all!
